My Niche + Diversity = Success!

The business of publicity is one I'm still learning.... but, I have found, treating my publicity business like a good financial portfolio is a wise choice!

When you limit your client list, you limit your potential. So, with a health care company in the hopper, now I'm looking to add and band.... a ballet company.... an author... and a hair stylist? Why yes I am!!!! While it sounds more like a three-ring circus, it's a perfect mix of clients dancing across multiple industries and platforms!

I thrive on the message and the diversity of the messages with these potentials. I have a connection with each of these people and their industries. I enjoy finding the angle of what make a business tick.... of what makes their message toc.... and turning it into a masterful clock that keeps score of their patrons rather than keeping time.

I have taken a very "real" approach with all of my new clients. I find that talking about the problem.... is actually the "better" story. For instance, my potential band is trying to take their "cover band" identity... and turn it into an original music CD release. This has trouble written all over it! But.... I say.... let's talk about that trouble!

My ballet company is having trouble getting Midwesterners to understand the value in having a professional company in their hometown. So, instead of placating the public and trying to "convince" them of this..... let's talk about why the public doesn't know they have this in their own back yard....

Publicity is funny business. It's not PR.... it's not Marketing.... I can't stand either to be honest with you.... it's sensationalized messages with meaning! Now, it is not lost on me that all publicity does this. In fact, there is plenty of it that is absolutely useless! However, this is where Pur Publicity comes into play. I actually believe that good publicity will have, not only a good message, but a call to action.... in some fashion.

Good publicity will be truthful. Good publicity won't be fearful. Good publicity wont be afraid to take the "real" message and exploit it for all the right reasons. Sure, I still think it's smoke and mirrors... Let's face it, we all like gloom and doom because it makes us feel better about our own lives. (ie, a train wreck!) But, there is no reason why good publicity can't also take a business' trouble and turn it into a message that everyone can relate to... and hopefully wants to know more about.

So.... if anyone out there needs some visibility for their new toaster invention that not only toasts, but feeds the dog; or knows of someone that is a new age self help public speaker that thinks tearing people down is the best way of building people up.... or, someone has actually made the topic of metamorphic rock exciting stuff..... I WANT YOU!
